I prayed to God to make me a bright light, and He made me a candle,

I asked Him to make a Symphony, and he made me a tune,

I wanted to be a paragraph, and He made me a phrase,

I begged Him to make a river, and He made me a puddle,

I asked Him to make a rose, and He made me a blade of grass,

I wanted to be a painting, and He made me a frame,

I prayed to be a mountain, and He made a pebble,

I prayed to be a Basilica, and He made me a chapel.

I was weary, tired, ready to quit trying,

"Why," Lord, I questioned, "Why?"

He looked at me sadly wondering why I did not know the answer myself,
And He simply said, The Servant is not greater than the Master.
